The year 2023 stands as a monumental period for Kia, highlighted by an impressive surge in sales and a remarkable increase in electric vehicle (EV) demand. Kia Canada's announcement of achieving its highest-ever annual sales surpasses its 2021 record, underscoring the growing popularity of its models, especially in the electric segment.
Unprecedented Sales Growth
Kia Canada has reached a new zenith with sales of 79,199 units in 2023, a 26.1% jump from the previous year. This achievement outdoes the company’s past sales records, showcasing its expanding traction among Canadian buyers. Leading the sales were models like the Kia Seltos, Sportage, and Forte, each achieving individual sales records. The Seltos led the pack with 17,886 units, followed by the Sportage at 14,653, and the Forte with 10,356 units.
Rapid Increase in Electric Vehicle Popularity
Kia Canada’s electric vehicle sales have seen a near tripling in 2023 compared to 2022, reflecting a robust 193.1% year-to-date increase. This spike in EV sales, headlined by the Niro EV and EV6, selling 3,885 and 2,678 units respectively, mirrors a global trend towards eco-friendly transport and a shift in consumer preferences towards sustainability.
Strategic Focus on Electric Vehicle Growth
Kia is steadfast in its commitment to expanding its EV offerings, as part of its Plan S strategy, aimed at increasing its range of electrified models. A key development in this direction is the launch of the EV9, Kia's pioneering mass-market electric 3-row SUV. This adds to an already robust lineup featuring the EV6 and Niro EV, emphasizing Kia's strategic pivot to sustainable transportation options.
“The Kia brand has evolved and grown tremendously, and this year has solidified that consumers are taking notice,” says Elias El-Achhab, VP and COO of Kia Canada. “Our electrified vehicle sales are paving the way for another year of success that will see us end 2023 on a high note.”
