The 2023 Kia EV6 is one of the most stunning-looking vehicles on the market today – we find it hard to believe anyone would disagree with that statement. It also uses a state-of-the-art EV powertrain to keep up with its futuristic looks, which is more and more becoming the powertrain of choice when it comes to new cars today – but that also has its drawbacks.
Chief among these is about when and where to charge your EV6, as that takes a little more strategy than simply pulling up to a gas pump.
Or does it?
When you think about it, since the EV6 can be charged via a standard 110V household outlet, so as soon as you get home, you can go ahead and plug-in until the next morning. This does take some time, however, so the better solution many are opting for is either installing a 240V fast charger at home, or finding one out in the wild at any number of charging stations, public parks, or retail spaces. Depending on charge speed, this could reduce your charge time almost 10 times over.
That’s pretty good, but of course a level III DC fast charger is an even better solution. More and more of these are arriving all over Canada from charge networks likes Chargepoint and Electrify Canada, and they can return 80 per cent of a charge from 10 per cent in under 20 minutes. You’ll barely have enough time to get to the Starbucks around the corner for your chai tea latte before the charge is complete!
Of course, there is one more solution, and that’s finding a way to best make use of the charge you currently have. The EV6’s battery ranges in size from 58 kWh to 77.4 kWh, good for between 373 km and 499 km depending on battery size and drive type. To help you get the most out of your battery’s range, the EV6 features one-pedal drive that both recharges your battery and helps you reduce brake wear because simply releasing the throttle causes the EV6 to slow and there are four levels of brake regen ferocity to help make the most of your mileage.
