Kia built the EV5 for a market that doesn't exist yet in the United States - a mid-size electric SUV that slots between the compact EV6 and the three-row EV9, designed specifically for Canadian buyers who need more space than a crossover but don't want the size or price of a full three-row. Here are five things that set it apart. 1. Canada Gets It First - and Gets It Exclusively in North...
Kia unveiled the EV3 - a compact electric SUV designed for drivers who've been waiting for the right size, price, and fit for Quebec roads. This is the third all-electric model Kia is bringing to Canada in 2026, following the EV4 and EV5, and it slots into the sub-compact SUV segment where most Quebecers actually shop.
The EV3 made its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show and arrives at Canadian dealerships in late Q3 2026. It's built on Kia's dedicated 400V E-GMP platform - the same electric architecture underpinning the award-winning EV9 - but packaged in a smaller, more maneuverable footprint for city parking and highway commutes.
What Makes the EV3 Stand Out
The EV3 delivers up to 482 kilometres of rated range with the long-range 81.4 kWh battery in front-wheel drive configuration. The smaller 58.3 kWh battery on the Light trim is rated at 354 kilometres.
Charging is fast: the 81.4 kWh battery charges from 10 to 80% in 31 minutes using DC fast charging, while the 58.3 kWh battery does the same in 29 minutes. Both batteries use a native NACS charging port, providing access to Tesla's Supercharger network plus other public charging stations across Quebec.
The EV3 includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, turning the battery into a mobile power source for laptops, e-bikes, campsite gear, or work sites.
Six Trims to Choose From
The EV3 lineup includes six trims: Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, GT-Line Limited, and GT. The Light trim uses the 58.3 kWh battery with front-wheel drive only. The Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT-Line Limited trims use the 81.4 kWh battery with a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The GT trim is AWD-only with performance-focused tuning, high-performance all-season tires, and exclusive design elements.
All-wheel drive availability is rare in the sub-compact EV segment. For Quebec winters or trips into the Laurentians, AWD provides better traction and confidence in snow and slush.

Technology and Interior Design
The EV3's cabin features a panoramic display spanning nearly 30 inches - the same setup as the larger EV9. It includes dual 12.3-inch displays (instrument cluster and infotainment) plus a 5-inch climate control screen. The system runs Kia's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) with over-the-air updates, wireless smartphone charging, and Digital Key 2.0.
All trims include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and multicolour mood lighting. Upper trims add a 12-inch head-up display, ventilated front seats with driver memory, eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio, and Surround View Monitor.
Rear passengers get reclining seat backs (up to 40 degrees) and dedicated air vents. The cargo area offers 740 litres with rear seats up, and 60/40 split-folding seats lay flat for larger loads. There's also a 25-litre frunk and an optional Smart Power Tailgate that opens automatically via Smart Key.
Safety and Driver Assistance
The EV3 includes eight standard airbags, including rear side airbags, and a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Standard Forward Collision Avoidance applies automatic emergency braking in certain circumstances. Hands-on Detection (HOD) monitors driver engagement and provides alerts if hands leave the steering wheel.
Two additional Forward Collision Avoidance features include FCA Junction Turning (FCA-JT), which detects oncoming vehicles when turning left at intersections, and FCA Junction Crossing (FCA-JC), which monitors for vehicles approaching from either side when driving straight through intersections. Both systems provide alerts and can initiate automatic emergency braking in certain circumstances.
Other available ADAS features include:
- Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
- Lane Following Assist (LFA)
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)
- Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA)
Design and Aerodynamics
The EV3 follows Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy, blending natural and industrial elements. The front features Kia's signature Star Map DRL design with small cube LED projector headlamps and the latest interpretation of Kia's Tiger Face grille.
The roofline slopes rearward with short overhangs and a low profile. Hidden rear door handles keep the side view clean, similar to the EV5 and EV9. The rear taillamps echo the Star Map lighting design.
Kia focused on aerodynamics to maximize efficiency. The EV3 uses lightweight body materials, aero wheels, a front bumper active air flap, and a full underbody cover, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd for extended range and reduced wind noise.
The EV3 rides on standard 17-inch or available 19-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. The GT trim gets high-performance all-season tires.
Driving Dynamics and Efficiency
The EV3 uses MacPherson strut suspension at the front and multi-link at the rear, tuned for balanced ride comfort and responsiveness. Engineers added sound absorption materials and damping treatments to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).
The EV3 includes Kia's i-Pedal 3.0 technology, allowing drivers to control speed and bring the vehicle to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal. The system works with Smart Regenerative Braking to recapture energy. The i-Pedal 3.0 now works in reverse, and i-Pedal Memory reverts to the last-used setting when restarting.
The EV3 Fills the Gap for Everyday Electric Driving
The 2027 Kia EV3 is built for drivers who want to go electric without sacrificing size, utility, and affordability. It's compact enough to park easily in the city, spacious enough for family errands and weekend trips, and efficient enough to make charging fit into daily routines. With up to 482 kilometres of range, fast charging, available all-wheel drive, and comprehensive technology and safety features, the EV3 makes electric driving accessible.
