Laval drivers know the daily grind. You're navigating Autoroute 15 toward Montreal during rush hour, merging onto Autoroute 440, and trying to stay on schedule while keeping up with calls, messages, and navigation updates. The right vehicle can turn that commute from stressful to straightforward, and the 2026 Kia K4 is built to do exactly that. The K4 brings smart connectivity and...
When a model dominates a given segment, its competitors do everything they can to surpass it. This is normal and healthy. It also demonstrates a brand's constant desire to improve, as is the case with Kia.
In fact, we're about to get the full measure of it, because this year, a new generation of the Sportage SUV will be presented to us. The Sportage, which will debut this year as a 2023 model, will take on the best-selling vehicle in its class, the Toyota RAV4.
Will the Sportage have all the tools to be able to do so? Let's find out.
The versions
First of all, it's important to know that in terms of version variety, the 2023 Kia Sportage will have nothing to envy to its main rival. It will be available with a naturally-aspirated engine, in hybrid configuration, as well as in plug-in hybrid preparation.
What will set Kia's model apart is its driving dynamics. This can be observed with every Kia product that is compared to its Toyota counterpart; it will be the same with the Sportage. So if you're looking for a fun-to-drive vehicle, you'll find something to suit your needs at Kia, without having to compromise on the type of vehicle you want.
More modern
The current Toyota RAV4 made its debut in 2018. Preparing a new generation Sportage for 2023, there's a five-year gap between the two vehicles' design.
Nowadays, that's an eternity. When it comes to connectivity, a year or two is enough to be outdated. This is also evident in the Sportage's more modern look. It features two 12.3-inch screens that form a whole in front of the driver, a far cry from the traditional and simple approach of the RAV4.
Roomier
Finally, the new 2023 Sportage promises to be roomier than ever, but especially roomier than the Toyota RAV4. Basically, behind the second row of seats, Kia will offer 1121 liters of cargo space. Toyota does not do better with 1062 liters. We don't have the numbers behind the second row yet, but it will be more at Kia.
That's what happens when you make sure that the new model you're offering offers more generous dimensions. For example, the 2023 Sportage is longer than its predecessor (183.5 inches, a gain of 7.1 inches) and sits on a wheelbase stretched to 108.5 inches, 3.4 inches longer than before.
That will translate into more room for second-row occupants.
All of this will also allow Kia to offer a more upscale feel with its model. In fact, when it comes to luxury, Kia always goes the extra mile, so that at the top of its lineup, you'll find products that are superior to what's available in the generic world where a vehicle like the Toyota RAV4 operates.
